Is Your Hoshizaki Ice Machine Beeping?

Hoshizaki has long been one of the most trusted and reliable names in commercial ice equipment and at Capital Equipment, we’ve rented, sold, leased and serviced hundreds of their ice machines over the years. Founded in 1947 in Japan and expanding to the United States in 1981, Hoshizaki is built for the busiest kitchens, hospitals, schools, and businesses that rely on always having quality ice in their bins when they need it. But just like any other commercial equipment, ice machines need routine service and maintenance otherwise they end up either not working correctly or not producing ice at all.

Hoshizaki Ice Machine Error Codes, Service, and Repair in Kansas City

With each ice machine manufacturer having their own alert system/error code style, Hoshizaki’s is someone unique in that the error codes can be heard through a series of beeping. The number of error code beeps can help pinpoint the issue so that factory trained technicians like those at Capital Equipment can diagnose and correct the issue(s)

One Beep-high temperature safety warning

As a safety precaution, Hoshizaki ice machines has a built in function that helps protect the equipment from being damaged due to high heat temperatures. This could be caused by ambient air temperature heating the water too high before it enters into the ice machine.

Two Beeps-long harvest cycle

When ice is ejected from the mold, it’s called a harvest cycle and Hoshizaki ice machines monitor that amount of times it takes to harvest. If the machine senses multiple harvest cycles taking 20 minutes or more, you will get this 2 beep alert.

Three Beeps-long freeze cycle

An ice machine’s free cycle begins after the ice molds have bee filled with water. A long freeze cycle alert could mean that the float switch is closed, the compressor is weak, or the water inlet valve is open or leaking.

Four or Five Beeps-circuit issues on mechanical bin sensor

This alert is mostly for older Hoshizaki models that have a mechanical bin control. 4 beeps signal a short circuit and 5 beeps represent an open circuit on the bin control.

Six or Seven Beeps- incorrect voltage supply

Having the correct voltage is crucial to Hoshizaki ice machines to operate correctly. 6 beeps signal that the voltage is too low whereas 7 beeps indicate that the voltage is too high. Either scenario can be due to a wiring problem or a voltage surge.

Eight Beeps-de-energized gear motor relay

8 beeps represent that the gear motor relay is de-energize which can result in the ice machine to shut down the compressor which essentials halts ice production. This can sometimes be fixed by simply turning the ice machine on and off which will manually reset the error code.

Nine Beeps-bin control check

9 beeps signals that the ice bin is nearly full which automatically shuts the ice machine’s ice production down. This error code can be reset by turning the machine on and off again but make sure to empty some of the ice out of of the bin otherwise you will likely get the same error code again.
